McIlhenny Company, Producer of TABASCO Brand Pepper Sauce– “An American Tradition Since 1868”
TABASCO Pepper Sauce products are made by the McIlhenny Company, founded by Edmund McIlhenny in 1868 on Avery Island, Louisiana. It was here that he developed the recipe for TABASCO Red Pepper Sauce that’s been passed down from generations. To this day, the company is still family-owned and operated on that very same site. Nearly 150 years later, the basic original recipe, the process by which its made, and the ingredients remain virtually unchanged. Now the aging process for the mash is longer – up to three years in white oak barrels – and the vinegar is high-quality distilled vinegar. TABASCO Sauce is still made on Avery Island, Louisiana. The current President and CEO, is the 7th McIlhenny family member to preserve the legacy and traditions of the company’s creator. We’ve come a long way from our beginnings in 1868. Today, the TABASCO Family of Flavors features 8 varieties of high-quality pepper sauces. From mild to wild, there’s something for everyone.
